01 / Overview

200 W G5 analog/pulse servo drive with safety option

The Omron R88D-KT02H-Z is a 200 W, single-phase 200 VAC G5 servo drive with the analog/pulse-train command interface and the safety option. The "KT" prefix in the R88D ordering code denotes the analog/pulse-train command family — used in applications where the controller issues a ±10 V analog velocity/torque command or a step/direction pulse train rather than a fieldbus command.

This drive family is the right choice for retrofitting an existing line where the controller is a pulse-output PLC (CP1H-Y, CP1L, or a non-Omron PLC) rather than a Sysmac NJ/NX. Pulse-train position control gives reliable point-to-point motion using the PLC's high-speed pulse output, with no need to add an EtherCAT master.

The "-Z" suffix adds the safety option: STO (Safe Torque Off), SS1 (Safe Stop 1) and SLS (Safely Limited Speed) per IEC 61800-5-2, activated by discrete safety inputs (24 VDC) on the drive's safety connector. Note that on the KT-family (analog/pulse) drives, the safety I/O is hard-wired, not FSoE — that is because the analog/pulse command interface is not EtherCAT.

Matching motor: R88M-K20030H (no brake) or R88M-K20030H-B (with brake) in the 200 V 3000 rpm family. The drive carries a built-in regenerative resistor for typical 200 W duty.

Typical Applications

  • Retrofit of pulse-output PLC systems to current G5 hardware
  • Stepper-replacement upgrades where 200 W servo performance is needed
  • Stand-alone positioning axes on packaging / cutting machines
  • Safety-rated axes with discrete safety wiring (no safety bus)
  • Replacement for legacy Omron SMX/SMY servo systems

Buying Checklist

  • If you need fieldbus, use the EtherCAT (-ECT) variant — this drive is analog/pulse only
  • For 24 VDC discrete safety wiring, the -Z variant's safety connector is the standard interface
  • For pulse input, decide between line-driver and open-collector — they are different pulse-input pins
  • Match the motor to the 200 V 200 W class
  • For pulse frequencies above 200 kpps, use the line-driver pulse input (not the open-collector)

03 / FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this drive with an NJ or NX controller?

Technically yes — you wire the NJ/NX high-speed output to the drive's pulse input. But this loses most of the value of an NJ/NX system. For new NJ/NX designs, use the EtherCAT (-ECT) variant instead.

How are the safety functions wired?

On the KT-family drives, safety is hard-wired: 24 VDC discrete inputs on the drive's safety connector. The EtherCAT FSoE safety protocol is only available on the EtherCAT -Z variants. Both deliver the same STO / SS1 / SLS behaviour; the difference is the wiring.

What's the maximum pulse frequency?

500 kpps on the line-driver input, 200 kpps on the open-collector input. For most pulse-output PLCs the line-driver input is the right choice.
